Create and Manage Canvas Apps with Power Apps Training (PL-7001)

Business teams need custom applications to manage their daily processes, but traditional development timelines are too long and IT budgets are limited. Requests pile up with the IT department while employees continue using shared Excel files, paper-based manual processes or unsuitable tools. This situation hampers operational efficiency and generates frustration at every level of the organization.

The PL-7001 training teaches you to create canvas applications with Microsoft Power Apps in one intensive day. You design mobile and tablet applications with a fully customizable interface, connected to your existing data sources such as Dataverse, SharePoint or SQL Server. Hands-on labs guide you step by step through building complete applications including input forms with validation, data galleries with filtering and sorting, multi-screen navigation and Power Fx functions. Delivered by MCT-certified trainers at ITTA in Geneva and Lausanne, this training prepares you for the corresponding Microsoft Applied Skill. You leave able to create operational business applications without writing a single line of traditional code.

Additional Information

Canvas Power Apps applications in enterprise

Canvas applications offer complete freedom in user interface design. You position each visual element (buttons, forms, galleries, icons, images) exactly where you want on the screen, like in a PowerPoint presentation. This pixel-perfect approach lets you create applications perfectly tailored to your organization’s specific business processes and optimized for mobile devices (smartphones and tablets). Power Apps canvas connects to over 400 data sources via built-in connectors, allowing you to leverage your existing data without migration. Organizations in Switzerland use canvas applications to digitize numerous field processes: on-site intervention reports, warehouse inventory tracking, managerial approvals, quality input forms, maintenance checklists, internal request management and field data collection. Return on investment is rapid as a functional canvas application can be created in a few hours and deployed immediately to users.

PL-7001 training program

This one-day training is structured around progressive hands-on labs that make you autonomous quickly. You start by creating a blank canvas application and designing its interface with available controls: galleries, forms, buttons, text fields and dropdown menus. You then add connections to data sources: Dataverse for structured enterprise data and SharePoint for lists and documents. Exercises cover creating input forms with validation rules, dynamic galleries with filtering, search and sorting, and smooth navigation systems between multiple screens. You learn essential Power Fx functions for application logic: Filter, LookUp, Patch, Navigate, If and Switch. The day ends with publishing your application and making it available to target users via the Power Apps portal.

Microsoft Applied Skill

This training prepares you for the Microsoft Applied Skill assessment, a more targeted and faster skills validation format than a full certification. The Applied Skill verifies your ability to perform a specific task: creating a functional canvas application connected to data. This format is ideal for quickly validating a precise skill and showcasing it on your LinkedIn profile, CV and Microsoft badge. The assessment is entirely online in the form of a practical lab in a simulated environment where you must complete concrete tasks within a given time frame.

ITTA training environment

ITTA delivers this training at its centers in Geneva and Lausanne as a Microsoft Learning Partner. MCT-certified trainers support each participant individually in completing practical exercises. You work on a dedicated cloud environment with Power Apps, Dataverse and preconfigured data sources for the labs. The day alternates between trainer demonstrations and hands-on labs you complete with guided support. The training is also offered as a virtual class with identical access to technical environments and real-time trainer support via Teams.

Audience and prerequisites

This training is designed for business professionals, analysts, executive assistants, project managers, team leaders and anyone wishing to create professional applications without coding. No programming experience is required: Power Apps canvas’s visual approach is accessible to all profiles. Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and basic database concepts (tables, columns, data relationships) is an advantage for progressing quickly during labs. This training is an excellent entry point into the Power Apps universe before advancing to PL-200 (functional consultant) or PL-400 (developer). Participants already working with SharePoint or Microsoft 365 will find Power Apps canvas a natural complement for creating input and lookup interfaces connected to their existing data.

FAQ

Do I need to know how to program to create canvas apps with Power Apps?

No, Power Apps canvas uses a visual drag-and-drop approach. Power Fx formulas resemble Excel formulas and require no prior traditional programming skills.

What is the difference between a canvas app and a model-driven app?

A canvas app offers complete design freedom with an interface you create freely. A model-driven app automatically generates the interface from the Dataverse data model, with a more structured approach.

Can Power Apps canvas apps run on smartphones and tablets?

Yes, canvas applications are responsive and work on smartphones and tablets via the Power Apps app available free on iOS and Android.

What data sources can be connected to a canvas app?

Power Apps canvas connects to Dataverse, SharePoint, SQL Server, Excel, OneDrive and over 400 other sources via built-in standard and premium connectors.

Is this one-day training sufficient for an enterprise project?

Yes, you leave with the skills needed to create operational canvas applications. For complex projects involving multiple data sources and advanced logic, the 4-day PL-200 training complements your knowledge.
