The essential basics of Excel

When starting with Excel, mastering the fundamentals is crucial. Our Excel course first addresses the use of the ribbon, a central tool for quickly accessing various features. You will also learn how to navigate between workbooks and worksheets, as well as manage display and zoom options to customize your workspace.
The first step to becoming efficient with Excel is understanding how to select parts of a worksheet, manage columns and rows, and manipulate data using the fill handle. These skills will save you valuable time during data entry.

What are the basics to learn in Excel?

To start using Excel effectively, it’s important to master the following concepts:

  • Interface and navigation: Familiarizing yourself with the ribbon, tabs, and cells is the first step. This basic knowledge will allow you to quickly navigate between different features.
  • Data entry and formatting: Learn how to enter data, modify it, and format it (choose a font, apply colors, etc.) to make your tables more readable.
  • Basic formulas: Master simple arithmetic operations like addition (+), subtraction (-), multiplication (*), and division (/).
  • Common functions: Use essential functions such as SUM(), AVERAGE(), MAX(), and MIN() to perform automatic calculations on your data.
  • Creating simple charts: Represent data visually to make it more understandable.
  • Managing worksheets: Organize, move, and manipulate different sheets in an Excel workbook.
  • Page layout and printing: Prepare your tables for optimal printing by adjusting the layout and page settings.
  • Mastering these basics will save you time and help you quickly become proficient in Excel.

How to better learn Excel?

Learning Excel requires practice and method. Here are some tips to improve quickly:

  • Practice regularly: The more you use Excel, the more comfortable you will be with its features. Repetition is key.
  • Set goals: Define specific skills to acquire (e.g., creating a chart, using a specific function) to structure your learning.
  • Use real data: Working on concrete projects, like managing a budget or creating reports, will help you better understand the features.
  • Explore features: Don’t hesitate to experiment with new functions. You will discover tools you might not have used otherwise.
  • Follow video tutorials: Visual aids often help better grasp complex manipulations.
  • Participate in forums: Online Excel user communities are a great resource for solving problems and sharing tips.
  • Use keyboard shortcuts: To improve your productivity, learn Excel shortcuts. They will save you precious time in your daily tasks.
  • Combining these methods will significantly improve your Excel proficiency.

What are the levels of Excel course?

Excel training is generally divided into several levels based on the complexity of the features covered:

  • Beginner level (Excel level 1): This level covers the basics of the interface, data entry and formatting, as well as the use of simple formulas. It is ideal for those who have never used Excel or want to refresh their knowledge.
