What is the ITIL® Foundation Bridge (Version 5)?
The ITIL® Foundation Bridge (Version 5) is an official transition module designed by PeopleCert for professionals already holding an ITIL® 4 certification. Unlike the full three-day ITIL® 5 Foundation training, the Bridge focuses exclusively on the updates and enhancements introduced in ITIL® Version 5. In just one day, you absorb the key changes without revisiting concepts you have already mastered.
The Bridge exam consists of 20 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 30 minutes, with a minimum passing score of 65%. Upon passing, you earn the ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) certification, identical to the one awarded after the full three-day training. This certification is your gateway to all advanced modules in the ITIL® Version 5 pathway.
Bridge or full Foundation: how to choose?
The choice between the one-day Bridge and the three-day ITIL® 5 Foundation training depends on your profile. If you already hold an ITIL® 4 Foundation certification (or a higher-level ITIL® 4 credential), the Bridge is the fastest and most cost-effective route to get up to date. You save two training days while earning exactly the same certification.
However, if you have no prior ITIL® certification, or if you wish to consolidate your fundamentals with the complete programme, the three-day ITIL® Version 5 – Foundation training (ITIL5-01) remains the recommended choice. Both pathways lead to the same globally recognized certification.
What changes in ITIL® Version 5
ITIL® Version 5 marks a significant evolution of the framework. It now integrates Digital Product and Service Management, with an approach centred on the complete lifecycle of digital products and services. Artificial intelligence takes centre stage, with a new module dedicated to ITIL AI Governance that prepares you to oversee AI usage within your organizations.
The Value System also evolves, with stronger integration between governance and operational capability. Service relationships are enriched with three collaboration levels (Basic, Cooperative, and Collaborative), and Value Stream Mapping becomes a strategic tool for optimizing value creation. Finally, integration with DevOps and PRINCE2® is formalized, reflecting the reality of modern IT environments.
Why train with ITTA?
At ITTA, the ITIL® 5 Foundation Bridge training is delivered by certified trainers active in IT service management. In small groups of 12 participants maximum, you benefit from personalized guidance and practical exchanges with the trainer and your peers. The training includes the official PeopleCert exam registration, accredited courseware, and structured exam preparation.
Available in person in Geneva and Lausanne, as well as in virtual classroom format, this training adapts to your schedule. Temptraining funding is eligible under certain conditions, which can significantly reduce your investment.
Preparing for the ITIL® Bridge exam
The Bridge exam is shorter than the full Foundation exam (20 questions instead of 40, 30 minutes instead of 60), but it requires a solid understanding of the specific changes in ITIL® Version 5. Focus your preparation on the new concepts: Digital Product and Service Management, ITIL AI Governance, the three types of service relationships, and Value Stream Mapping. The one-day training covers the entire official syllabus and methodically prepares you for each question type.
