This certification is the mandatory entry into the PRINCE2 path and often constitutes the first project management certification for an executive or consultant starting a project specialisation.
The PRINCE2 Practitioner training validates the ability to concretely apply PRINCE2 on a real project. The programme deepens method tailoring to the project context, complex scenario analysis, use of management documents (PID, project plan, exception report, lessons learned), risk management, quality control, stage management and governance. Prerequisite: PRINCE2 Foundation. Targets active project managers, PMO heads, organisational consultants and programme coordinators.
The PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner training combines both Foundation and Practitioner levels in a single intensive training with both exams taken at the end of the training. PRINCE2 Foundation or Practitioner: where to start?
PRINCE2 Foundation must be taken before Practitioner. Foundation validates understanding of the method (concepts, principles, themes, processes). Practitioner validates the ability to concretely apply the method on a project. Many participants follow both consecutively via the Foundation and Practitioner bundle to optimise training time and pass both exams.
PRINCE2 or PMP: which to choose?
PRINCE2 is more structured and governance-oriented, particularly present in administrations, international organisations and regulated environments. PMP (PMI) is broader, oriented towards body of knowledge and practices, dominant in North America and certain multinationals. The choice depends on the employer context and organisation preferences. Many senior project managers hold both certifications to maximise international employability.
Is prior experience required to take PRINCE2 Foundation?
No, PRINCE2 Foundation is accessible without formal experience prerequisite. General project management knowledge or operational project experience however strongly facilitates concept understanding.
