ITIL 4: a widely used tool in IT service management
ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) has been, since its creation by the British government in the 1980s, a widely used tool in IT service management (ITSM). The current ITIL 4 version, published in 2019 and continuously enriched, structures IT practices around the Service Value System, the 4 dimensions of service management (organisations and people, information and technology, partners and suppliers, value streams and processes) and the 34 practices. In Geneva, Lausanne and across French-speaking Switzerland, private banks, international organisations, hospitals, public services and industrial companies structure their IT directions around ITIL certifications, particularly ITIL 4 Foundation and Managing Professional specialisations.
ITTA offers a training catalogue (which now owns AXELOS) and offers the complete catalogue of the most demanded ITIL 4 certifications in French-speaking Switzerland. Our ITIL trainers are consultants active in ITSM projects, IT transformations and IT governance programmes for Swiss and international companies.
Following a recognised ITIL 4 training opens access to highly valued roles: service desk officer, production officer, change officer, problem officer, availability manager, catalogue officer, ITSM engineer, IT governance consultant, CIO. ITIL 4 Foundation remains the most demanded IT certification in service desk, ITSM, operations and IT governance job descriptions in French-speaking Switzerland, particularly at private banks, international organisations and public services.
Whether you are a support technician, service desk officer, production officer, ITSM engineer, IT project manager, governance consultant or CIO, our ITIL 4 training in Geneva and Lausanne provides the methods and common vocabulary to pass your target ITIL 4 certification and structure your ITSM approach.

ITIL 4 Foundation
The ITIL 4 Foundation training lays the framework basics: Service Value System, Service Value Chain, 4 dimensions of service management, 7 guiding principles, 34 practices (incident management, problem management, change enablement, service desk, service request management, etc.). This certification is accessible to beginner profiles and constitutes the mandatory foundation before any ITIL 4 Managing Professional or Strategic Leader specialisation. ITIL 4 Foundation is one of the most demanded IT certifications in Swiss job descriptions.
ITIL 4 Managing Professional
ITIL 4 Managing Professional regroups four specialised modules for operational profiles: Create Deliver and Support (CDS, service delivery), Drive Stakeholder Value (DSV, customer and supplier relationship), High Velocity IT (HVIT, delivery acceleration in cloud-native and agile contexts), Direct Plan and Improve (DPI, transversal). These modules are accessible after ITIL 4 Foundation and lead to the Managing Professional designation after the four.
ITIL 4 Strategic Leader
ITIL 4 Strategic Leader regroups two modules for strategic profiles: Direct Plan and Improve (DPI, transversal with ITIL 4 Managing Professional), and Digital and IT Strategy (DITS, digital strategy). These modules are accessible to CIOs, digital transformation programme managers and senior consultants driving an ITSM approach at organisation scale.
ITIL 4 Master and other modules
ITIL 4 Master constitutes the framework summit and requires complete Managing Professional or Strategic Leader certification. This certification targets ITIL experts demonstrating advanced framework application on real cases. Other complementary modules (ITIL 4 Practice Manager, ITIL 4 Specialist Sustainability) are also available.
The ITIL ecosystem and complementary certifications
ITIL fits into a broader ITSM and IT governance ecosystem. The IT service management sub-domain regroups ITIL 4 and complementary ITSM approaches. Process and Lean management training brings Lean IT, naturally complementary to ITIL on the operational efficiency dimension. The project management sub-domain covers PRINCE2, another AXELOS-PeopleCert certification in the ITIL portfolio. Managerial DevOps training brings DASA and DOI, complementary to ITIL 4 High Velocity IT for organisations combining ITSM and DevOps. The service desk management domain covers Service Desk Analyst and Service Desk Manager, naturally linked to ITIL.
ITIL 4 trends in 2026
Several evolutions are shaping ITIL 4 in 2026. ITIL 4 continues its progressive enrichment with new DevOps, sustainability and value stream-oriented modules. PeopleCert harmonises ITIL and PRINCE2 certifications under the same exam and renewal platform with MyAxelos. Integration between ITIL 4 and DevOps, SRE and FinOps practices becomes a structuring topic in organisations modernising their IT direction. ITIL 4 remains widely used ITSM framework in French-speaking Switzerland, particularly in regulated sectors and administrations. Our pedagogical content regularly integrates these evolutions to remain aligned with current company practices.

FAQ
Is IT experience required before ITIL 4 Foundation?
A few months of IT experience significantly facilitates ITIL 4 Foundation onboarding. The training nonetheless remains accessible to profiles in transition to IT, provided they have good ease with general IS vocabulary. For Managing Professional modules, confirmed IT experience (3 to 5 years) is highly recommended.
Does ITIL 4 Foundation expire?
Since 2023, ITIL 4 PeopleCert certifications require renewal every 3 years via the MyAxelos platform with a PDUs programme and an annual fee. Our pedagogical team supports you on renewal modalities and the eligibility of our training for PDUs.
ITIL or COBIT: what is the difference?
ITIL structures daily IT service management (incidents, problems, changes, requests). COBIT (published by ISACA) covers IT governance at the executive level (strategic alignment, value, resources, risks, performance). Both frameworks are complementary and often followed successively by profiles combining operational and governance.
Are your ITIL courses available for companies?
Yes, the entire ITIL 4 catalogue is available in-house, in Geneva, Lausanne and in virtual classroom, with a programme adapted to your internal ITSM practices. Our team builds the specifications with you and organises sessions according to your IT transformation calendar.
